Nominations for Samaritans Lifesaver Award

Sarah Moss

Said the following about Chelmsford Station Team:

“There are so many reasons for me nominating the Chelmsford Station team for the Samaritans Lifesaver Award but above all it’s because they are just that… Lifesavers.

I joined the Chelmsford Area, as Assistant Area Customer Service Manager, almost 18 months ago and if I’m really honest one of the things I felt most apprehensive about was the station’s status as a National Suicide Hotspot.

This is a status that no station wants to have, and I was concerned about the effect that it had on the team.

I shouldn’t have worried as they were, from the beginning, a team that wanted to work together and change things.

Through amazing teamwork, they have supported each other through the most difficult and sad times.

We have put in measures to reduce the risk of these incidents and they have embraced each step with a positive attitude.

Each day we now have Land Sheriffs patrol the platforms and the station team have welcomed them in and treated them as one of us.

Even our retailers within the station have got involved, by attending a Samaritans MSC course and through the Conversation Coffee initiative.

I feel like Chelmsford is really leading the way in promoting the behaviours needed turn things around.

We still have many interventions, but they are exactly that, interventions. Trying to save lives has become second nature to the team and they know their colleagues are always there for them whatever the outcome.

This is why I am nominating ALL the people that make Chelmsford the positive place it is today…
