The RailStaff Awards 2024

Said the following about Stuart Humphreys:

“Stuart and the MMLE L2C project have created and implemented the "always on" electrification safety video which as of yesterday has had nearly 500,000 hits on the internet. This safety video storey highlights the risks of going onto the line side on electrified railways. This whole process has been managed by the route team and the L2C project team with Stuart at the helm of this and this video will go a long way in making it safer on the Bedford - Kettering - Corby new electrification scheme. This safety video was created following a schools competition on the East Midlands route with the winning school creating the background theme for the video thus enhancing the line side neighbours & local communities on the route resulting in a significant safety campaign of the risks of electrification in a new to be electrified route

Stuart has led this with a brilliant team supporting him, its taken some time to do, loads of hurdles to get over, but the bottom line is that Stuart and the route team with the IP L2C team have created a safety message that has never been done like this, has created a vast amount of interest and safety noise and will ultimately bring home the risks and dangers of "always on" for electrification and make East Midlands electrification a safer place with our local communities and their awareness and understanding of the safety risks whilst recognising the benefits that electrification brings with the added radio adverts and safety campaigning that Stuart and the team are driving on East Midlands

This will be a safer place following the time, efforts, drive and determination that Stuart and the team are putting into this“

Donna Qualtrough

Said the following about Stuart Humphreys:

“Stuart and the MML team have surpassed all expectations with their safety campaign 'always on, so always stay off'. They have created a unique and thought provoking campaign that spans across all media platforms (internet, cinema, radio and newspaper). This campaign not only has a local impact in terms of the Midland Mainline Electrification Programme, but it can be used by any future projects or internal / external stakeholders that wish to promote the dangers of trespassing on the railway.

The development of the short film '18' demonstrates the team’s aspirations to create something exceptional and unexpected from a local team. This film has taken a step away from the traditional corporate safety messages, and created something that is hard hitting and relevant to its target audience. Their utilisation of the media company Fully Focused to produce the film, and give them the tools to respond to comments has made this film accessible and sparked a conversation around this important issue.

With 1 million views and rising the team have done a great job, and created a safety legacy which will hopefully continue to keep people safe.“

“The production of the 'Always on, Always Stay Off' campaign material including the hard hitting short film '18'. The film has been a huge success with over 1.3 million views on one website alone. I have worked in the Rail Industry for 26 years and never has a safety campaign had such an impact on me. Well Done! to Stuart and the wider team that made this happen.“

Said the following about Stuart Humphreys:

“Stuart and Sponsor Wendy Bell have worked closely with a view to delivering an essential message to the public- our electrified railway brings fantastic benefits but it is exceptionally dangerous.

The attached provides a link to a short- hard hitting educational film produced to get the message across in a format which is being well received by its target audience.

Stuart and his team should be immensely proud of themselves!“

Kate Hinds

Said the following about Stuart Humphreys:

“I would like to nominate Stuart and the team for an award as I think this definitely spreads the safety message to a really hard to reach target audience. The team has really worked hard on this project and deserve to receive some kind of recognition of saying something that is really important to all of us, at home and at work.

It moved me to tears and this shows it does work. Amazing!“

Tony Belshaw

Said the following about Stuart Humphreys:

“Stuart has excelled with the electrification campaign 'Always On, So Always Stay Off.' The campaign pulls few punches to achieve a remarkable cut through with its target demographic - young people straying onto electrified railways. Through a vibrant mix of channels - print, radio, poster and online - the message that electrified railways can be lethal is conveyed in a way that young people can relate to. A 30 minute film '18' received its premiere at BAFTA's studios in London and in just two months has gone on to be viewed more than two million times online - a remarkable statistic. Stuart is a worthy winner of the title of Marketing and Communications Person of the Year.“

Albert Porter

Said the following about Stuart Humphreys:

“Over the last 18 months myself and Stuart have worked closely on creating what we believed was an inspirational Line side Safety Campaign for the London to Corby Project.

I cannot begin to explain the dedication, determination, passion & pride shown by Stuart throughout this process.

The time & effort he has put into creating Phase 1 of our delivery program has been astounding. With constant focus & direct on Phase 2.

The Safety film "18" is a huge success for us a project & the feedback received from YouTube watchers & Rail workers has been moving to say the least.

I have found it a true delight to work with Stuart on this item of work & I truly believe that the hard work he has put in will build a safer culture for millions throughout the UK with regard to Overhead line equipment“

Jo Slack

Said the following about Stuart Humphreys:

“An inspirational colleague, Stuart has produced some incredibly creative campaigns that have a real impact with target audiences.

A particular mention has to go to the recent Midland Main Line safety campaign Always On, So Always Stay Off, which highlighted the dangers of trespassing on electrified railway. A visually memorable treatment delivered a hard-hitting message across multichannel platforms and included the short film ‘18’. This generated significant results and maximum engagement by capturing the attention of a typically hard to reach (teenage) audience https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgexpPSOrww

Not only this, but Stuart is someone always willing to share good practice and offer his expertise to people across the business.“

Cathryn Falder

Said the following about Stuart Humphreys:

“Stuart has made an outstanding and lasting contribution to the safety culture within Network Rail and externally to our lineside neighbours with the Always on - Always stay off campaign. Stuart co-ordinated and organised an innovative and powerful approach to communicating the safety message facilitating the release of the short film ‘18’. With very real evidence this this film is reaching and informing the target demographic, the figures for this speak for themselves 2 million views and counting ...“

Joe Cookson

Said the following about Stuart Humphreys:

“Stuart has been fantastic to work with in communicating a hugely successful campaign to improve awareness of the safety risks associated with electrification on the Midland Main Line.

Always approachable, inspiring and focused on the bigger picture, he has been instrumental to the production and promotion of the film "18" which has been central to raising awareness amongst audiences outside of the industry of the dangers of trespass and specifically going near electrified overhead wires.

It has been great to work with Stuart on the communication of this project - his passion has helped to improve safety on our railways across the Midlands and beyond.“
