Said the following about Simone Carter:

“Simone works tirelessly to raise awareness of the plight of rescued greyhounds from the racing industry. Through her Nellie Doodles artwork she has created a following of over 20,000 people on Facebook highlighting the loving nature of these wonderful dogs and the joys of rehoming them. This impact is worldwide and as a greyhound owner I am extremely grateful for everything she has achieved. She regularly raises funds for various greyhound and sighthound charities across the country through auctioning paintings having a direct impact on animal welfare services, it is unquestionable that many dogs' lives will have been saved through this selfless act. Recently Simone has become patron of Candy Cane, a greyhound charity working hard to rescue greyhounds and other dogs in China being kept in the most horrendous of conditions. Simone's involvement and promotion of the charity has helped to raise Candy Cane's profile and again will have had a positive impact on the number of dogs rescued. Above all, Simone does this in a very modest way without realising how much joy she brings to people through her artwork and humour.“

Carolyn Savage

Said the following about Simone Carter:

“Simone is a great proponent of Greyhound Rescue and this year, in particular, has become a patron of Candy Cane Rescue, developing their logo, donating her artwork to raise funds to rescue greyhounds transported to China for the meat industry.

She regularly donates artwork through auctions, donations and her Christmas cards to a variety of UK animal charities“

Susan Mathewson

Said the following about Simone Carter:

“I would like to nominate Simone Carline Carter for the award of Charitable Person of the year because, other than being a loyal employee who always goes the extra mile, she does a HUGE amount to raise awareness of the plight of sighthounds, and dogs in general, in her own time.

Simone is a very talented artist, and 'Nellie Doodles' (named after her late, beautiful, greyhound Nellie) has an army of followers who just love her 'doodles'. Simone donates a large number of her works to sighthound charities for auction, and she also helps these charities by creating personalised drawings to advertise their events.

I met Simone several years ago, just after I re-homed a greyhound, and was immediately humbled by the work that she does to bring this majestic dog to life through her drawings, and by how much she does to bring their plight to the fore - thousands of these dogs are killed every year simply because they do not make the grade. The, average, racing life of a greyhound is 3 years ... after that, they are often abandoned or killed or, if they are lucky, they end up in a rescue centre.

Simone is a selfless and genuine human being with a heart of gold and she, more than anyone I know, deserves this recognition. I know that should she win this award, she would give a percentage of her winnings to a dog rescue.

Thank you for your consideration.“

Said the following about Simone Carter:

“Simone works tirelessly for the fate of greyhounds and other disadvantaged dogs, at home and abroad. She has an extraordinary artistic talent, which she minimises and never promotes, but she IS very talented, and she sells her work, not for her own profit, but to benefit dogs living in not good circumstances. Her art appears in charity auctions frequently, for the public to bid on and benefit the hosting charity, and she is utterly disparaging about any good she might be doing. I cannot believe anyone would be more deserving of an award for their charitable deeds than Simone. Please choose her and she will share her award with the dogs too!“

Derek Marler

Said the following about Simone Carter:

“I nominate Simone Carter in the Charitable Person designation. I have known Simone for several years, both personally and professionally, as we are both involved in support of greyhounds and dog rescues. Simone has contributed towards the advocacy of sight-hounds through her direct support and donations of her artwork to raise monies for rescues. I believe Simone would be a brilliant choice and ambassador for the Charitable Person award. Thank you for your consideration.“

Paul Hindle

Said the following about Simone Carter:

“Simone has done so much to help numerous Greyhound Rescue Charities raise funds. She is VERY well known within the Greyhound Rescue community as "Nellie Doodles" and she has created hundreds of unique pieces of artwork all inspired by her own Greyhound, Nellie, who has sadly now passed.

Simone has donated a large quantity of her artwork for Rescues to raise funds as well as doing several auctions and sales of her work with the funds going to Greyhound Rescues.

I personally raise funds for Kama's Cave Greyhound Sanctuary and Simone has helped us raise several thousand pounds over the last 3 years. She is currently helping to raise funds and awareness for Candy Cane Rescue who are working tirelessly to rescue ex racing greyhounds sold from Ireland and the UK to China where they have found their way into the meat trade.

I know that she spends many hours late at night producing her artwork and fundraising alongside her full time job.

Simone is not only a lovely person but will always go out of her way to help raise funds for Greyhounds wherever she can“

Emily Dixon

Said the following about Simone Carter:

“Simone is a very talented artist and draws cartoons in her spare time to raise money for greyhound charities. She sells some of the artwork and has many fans across the UK and the globe. Her Nellie Doodles Facebook page has over 21,000 likes. A lot of the time Simone donates artwork to charity auctions to help raise money for greyhound rescue charities around the world. She is a talented and hardworking individual and I am honoured to know her.“

Said the following about Simone Carter:

“I have known Simone for many years now through our common interest the love of Greyhounds and the need to spread awareness in the plight of all retired racing Greyhounds.

Simone became an ambassador for all Greyhounds after she adopted her own Greyhound Nellie (Trotters El Tina) sadly Nellie has now passed over the Rainbow bridge. Now that Nellie has passed away she lives on in Simone’s wonderful doodles and that is a wonderful tribute for a Greyhound discarded by the racing industry.

Simone always enjoyed drawing, cartoons mainly & when Nellie her rescue Greyhound was adopted by her family she started doodling her and Nellie Doodles was born. Simone started putting some of her early doodles on Facebook and Nellie doodle’s-awareness just grew and grew. Her work is now known worldwide and through auctions and selling of originals she helps many sighthound charities globally. The Nellie Doodles family has continued to grow and now has over 21700 followers on the Nellie Doodles Facebook page.

With Simone’s generosity and by raising awareness through the Nellie Doodles page she has personally saved many Greyhounds and sighthounds lives all over the world. She has done this with her fun doodles showing the world how much love these discarded animals can give.

Simone’s doodle’s make you smile every day.

Earlier this year Simone became patron of Candy Cane Rescue another Greyhound charity trying to save Greyhounds exported from the U.K. and Ireland to China and kept in the most horrendous conditions and even put into the meat trade.

With Simone taking on the role of patron it raises the profile of Candy Cane in a modest way through her wonderful artwork and it is helping raise the awareness of what actually happens in a regulated racing industry.

She is helping to save lives.

I am a volunteer and involved with Greyhound Rescue Fife in Scotland, we hold an annual dog show to raise awareness and much needed funds for our kennels that occupy over 50 Greyhounds all year round. Last year (2017) was our tenth anniversary show and to commemorate the anniversary Simone created a special commission for the show which I have attached. It was our co-owner Jimmy’s Fernie's eightieth birthday and the rescue had recently re-homed their one thousandth Greyhound. Simone managed to include all this information when she created our special Nellie Doodle for our show. The show was a huge success raising much needed funds and homing a Greyhound. With Simone’s commission and the prints from the commission to sell~ all supplied by Simone it helped to make our show a very special one for all of us at Greyhound Rescue Fife.

It was a wonderful act of kindness from a very special lady for our special anniversary dog show last year.

Simone deserves this award because she is so modest about her doodling she says it’s just a hobby but it brings out the smiles in people through her artwork and humorous Nellie Doodles creations every day. I certainly smile every day seeing her wonderful creations inspired by the legend Nellie (Trotters El Tina)“

Said the following about Simone Carter:

“Simone is patron of Candy Cane rescue who save Sighthounds mainly but also some other dogs from the Chinese meat market. She supports loads of other Sighthound charities by donating her art works for raffles and auctions consistently throughout the year and also promotes the charities she supports tirelessly“

Helen Tucker

Said the following about Simone Carter:

“I would like to nominate Simone Carter for the Charitable Person of the Year 2018 Award. Simone strives tirelessly to raise funds for a variety of different sighthound charities. Animal charities generally languish behind more popular charities in terms of both publicity and funding, and it would be wonderful if this could be redressed in some part by highlighting the work of this dedicated individual. Simone is too modest to wish for her artistic abilities to be over-emphasised, but examples of her highly original and idiosyncratic work featuring sighthounds can be found on the internet. They masterfully capture the physical elegance and grace but also the playfulness and guilelessness of the sighthounds she loves so dearly and to whom she selflessly dedicates her leisure time in supporting charities which every day save sighthounds from frequently unimaginably horrendous circumstances.“

Jenny Cranton

Said the following about Simone Carter:

“Simone is a talented artist who generously uses her talent to assist various greyhound rescues both here in the U.K. and overseas. There is little welfare for racing greyhounds when no longer any use to U.K. tracks and many of these gentle dogs find themselves exported to countries like China and Pakistan where there is no welfare of any kind, their lives ending in a horrific death in the meat trade. Simone is a Paton of a U.K. based charity Candy Cane Rescue which exists to recover some of these British bred greyhounds and return them to the U.K.

Simone is approached by many people who embark on specific fundraising challenges and will produce a logo or painting to represent the challenge, taking no funds for herself.

Her inspiration came from her greyhound Nellie who unfortunately is no longer with her. Should Simone win this category it would help draw attention to the plight of racing greyhounds and how suitable these dogs are as pets thus potentially saving more dogs from entering the Meat Trade in China.“
