Said the following about Rohan Palmer:

“Hello,

I’d like to nominate Rohan Palmer for this award.

Rohan Palmer is a supervisor for Hackney Downs station. His day to day activities includes customer service, day to day station operations, security checks, making relevant announcements etc. He has such a positive attitude and one who truly takes pride in what he does.

There are a couple of specific occasions mentioned as below.

On 10th May, Rohan booked on for his as usual and whilst trains were running on time he was alerted to a male who was talking to himself about suicide, Rohan immediately approached the guy and spoke to him, asked him to come back to his office for a cup of tea as he didn’t look alright. He took him by the hand and led him to the office and made a cup of tea. Rohan was very calm, collective and took time to listen to him. Afterwards, he led him out of the station. He, later on, reported this to BTP and Samaritans as well. Whist it seems quite a simple task, I was impressed by the compassion and the way he owned that situation, he dealt with the situation before it gets any worse. He saved a man’s life and saved the railway from severe delay and lost revenue through his actions.

On the other occasion, it was August 2018, one of the hottest and busiest days of the year and there was a disruption on the station. Faced with multiple service disruptions during PM peak - including cancellations, short notice alterations and delays - the station was left with a lot of disgruntled customers on a very warm day. He noticed one of the male didn’t look well and was not steady on their feet. He approached the person, took him into the office and called an ambulance to assist.

One of customer comment read-: “Rohan is an absolute credit to TfL. In the space of 30 minutes, I saw him take care of a gentleman who had suffered a head injury and needed medical attention and a lady struggling with the heat, whilst still managing to keep everyone informed about the delays and train cancellations from Greater Anglia.

I’m very proud of Rohan who goes above and beyond on a daily basis. His actions were exceptional and he helped prevent an incident that would have had a negative impact on so many peoples’ lives.

I had several good feedback about Rohan’s work, both from customers and his colleagues. Rohan has been featured in our internal newsletters and has won several vouchers through ARL internal recognition schemes.“
