“Since joining the Wessex team in October 2017 Marcia has personally spoken to over 20,000 school children on the dangers of rail safety, culminating in a two week Think Safe event where she gave rail safety presentations to 2000 children. Marcia has taken the lead in developing the youth engagement programme pulling together South Western Railway (SWR), British Transport Police (BTP), Network Rail and local businesses/ council resources to produce community engagement events. One such example was working with RFU, SWR and BTP at high risk level crossings with local schools to raise awareness not only for the children involved, but also for those who misused the crossings.
Marcia led the works to turn the NR Wessex HQ into a facility able to successfully hold youth rail safety events for the first time. This included the creation of a real level crossing and bespoke theatre performance. Over 60 children attended and very positive feedback received, with schools requesting to repeat the exercise with other classes“
