Said the following about Joseph Healy:

“Joe is Thameslink's Bedford station manager, who has invested significant time, energy and passion in helping 100 less able people to use the railway, through GTR's 'Try A Train' programme.

Each session in the programme gives more vulnerable people such as those with learning difficulties the confidence to travel on their own and, with it, gain greater independence.

Joe and his team has shown 10 groups of youngsters how to use ticket machines and find their away around the different parts of a station. They gain experience in the practicalities of rail travel, such as finding the right platform.

Typical comments from those taking part include: “I overcame my fear of crowds,” “I overcame my fear of trains,” and “I learned what to do when there is a problem.”

Joe likes to make these trips both fun and informative, and his colleagues on the station really enjoy interacting with the groups and seeing their confidence grow.

Joe's commitment to the local community is an inspiration for the company. He does not seem to realise the real impact he is having because, to him, he is just doing his job.“
