The RailStaff Awards 2024

Nominations for Rail Manager of the Year

Lisa Gillman

Said the following about David Martin:

“Dave is the Group Station Manager for the West Stations for MTR Crossrail.

The West Region TUPE’d over to MTR Crossrail in December 2017. This was not without its issues as any TUPE process has, it can be a trying and confusing time for staff. Dave was a key part of the TUPE process ensuring everyone was kept well informed, making himself available for any staff to raise any concerns and questions to. The TUPE process went incredibly well and I believe that Dave was an integral part to this. Dave continues to lead by example, leading the West management team through challenging times with the majority of the stations having continual building works as part of the Crossrail project. He still finds time to talk to staff to answer any questions or concerns they may have. Nothing appears to be too much trouble for Dave. He has supported myself through personal health issues that I recently had and did so with empathy and discretion.

Dave is always able to motivate, inspire and empower staff in his area.“

Said the following about David Martin:

“I would like to nominate Dave Martin for the Rail Manager of the year.

Dave is a brilliant manager as well as a fantastic individual. He leads by example and is always willing to take time out to support and coach front line staff ensuring high standards are set for each and every member of staff to follow.

Whether it be bright and early in the morning or late at night whenever there’s an issue Dave has always been there to see us through the challenging situations.

Since transferring over to MTR Dave has guided the front line staff like myself and encouraged progression within the company. Furthermore he has assisted in helping the team carry out duties to the desired level. Additionally even whilst achieving highly, Dave continues to motivate staff to believe they can do better.

I truly believe Dave deserves this award, he is a true asset to MTR and a role model for the newer staff like myself who have recently joined the railway.“
