Said the following about Young Rail Professionals Annual Dinner 2018 Team:

“Morgane, Beth, David, Fiona and Farid are all volunteers from the Young Rail Professionals (YRP) who worked together to organise the 2018 YRP Annual Dinner. The event is held each year to celebrate the young professionals who continue to excel and drive the rail industry, as well as encourage young professionals and senior executives from diverse backgrounds to mix and network during the event.

The team put in a lot of effort, mostly during their free time, to plan and organise for the event. 400 guests were present at the dinner in Derby on April 13th 2018 and in order to attract such a large number of people, the team utilised its network of YRP corporate and individual members to good effect, reaching out to both local and international rail companies. The team also wrote marketing articles that were published in rail magazines, in order to reach the widest audience possible.

One of their key successes was to secure an engaging and inspirational guest speaker from the rail industry; John Smith, the managing director and founder of GB Railfreight, who gave valuable lessons to the young professionals that were present that evening.

Morgane, Beth, David, Fiona and Farid also reached out to the wider industry, in order to obtain nominations for the three awards presented during the event and to raise money for the Railway Children charity. A total of 73 nominations were received from various companies across the industry and £2095 was raised for the charity which went towards providing protection and opportunity for children across the UK, India and East Africa that are forced to leave homes that have become unbearable through poverty, abuse, violence and neglect.

As YRP is a not-for-profit organisation, the team worked to a tight budget and often late into the night, in order to find ideas for the venue’s decoration, make the decorations for each of the 40 tables and print the room plan, table number and placeholders themselves with the goal of putting on the best evening possible with the money available – nothing could stop them from putting the YRP under the spotlight for a good cause!

The YRP annual dinner was also used to promote this year’s RailWeek (8th to 14th October), which is a YRP initiative designed to celebrate our diverse and exciting sector by linking rail industry professionals with schools and students, in order to inspire them to pursue careers in rail.

Very good feedback was received about the event from senior industry leaders, as well as young professionals. Guests said that the event, by its itinerary, event timing and venue layout, made it ideal to network and enjoy the friendly atmosphere that the rail industry offers!“
