Nominations for Rail Team of the Year

Charlotte Murray

Said the following about Royal Wedding Team GWR SWR:

“The Royal Wedding in Windsor this year was the biggest high profile event GWR & SWR have planned for. It involved months of meticulous planning culminating in providing over 40,000 customer journeys to and from the event. The team worked collaboratively with Network Rail and BTP to ensure plans were joined up and everything ran smoothly on the day. The team worked tirelessly, engaging with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, Thames Valley Police and many other community partners to make this an unforgettable success. Windsor & Eton Central was re-branded to Harry & Meghan Central, branded chocolates, confetti and flags were given to customers, bunting festooned the local stations and trains were liveried to delight and surprise our customers.

A new temporary entrance was created at Slough to ease with customer flows. All of this could not have happened without the team working together so closely, supporting each other and pulling out all the stops for this event.

Volunteers flocked to help out on the day and provided a real party atmosphere for our customers. Media coverage was exceptional and our social media teams saw for the first time, positive comments outweighing negative, all down to the dedication of this team.

The GWR & SWR team worked exceptionally well together - the first time we have collaborated on such an event, sharing ideas and producing contingency plans for every eventuality, even engaging with the local swan sanctuary in case we had swans on the line.

The day was an unmitigated success allowing our customers to enjoy a fantastic day.“
