Nominations for Rail Team of the Year

Chris Spellman

Said the following about Phil Pacey and Srinivasa Mulakala:

“Phil along with Srinivasa Mulakala in York have forged a strong team to undertake the demanding task of the Signalling Power Renewals project between Burton & Holme and Gretna.

They have forged a very good working relationship with the Network RAM and together the team has pushed forward and the Form A's for the project are being accepted very quickly as opposed to the normal operating timescales.

The vast amount of data generated by the survey has been quickly and efficiently dealt with by the team and solutions proposed based on the survey findings and the discussions with the RAM.

Their positive approach and attitude to get the work completed quickly and right first time as resulted in savings in time and as allowed Network Rail to seriously look at releasing funds and accelerating the programme for the detail design to progress and eventually lead to the implementation. The new system will provide a robust signalling power supply for train operation in the future and will lead to less down time associated with the ageing existing system. Also fault finding will be improved and the team has investigated the best method for undertaking fault identification allowing quick location of the fault and rectification. The team has done this by liaising with various manufacturers and with the Product Approval team for Network Rail to ensure that by the detailed design stage an approved fault location system will be available for specification as part of the detailed design.

This savings in time can be made with regards to fault finding and rectification of the fault to ensure training running remains at an optimum.

The team is eager to embark on the detail design to realise the hard work and get the signalling power renewal implemented ahead of the planned timescales that are currently in place. With their continued good teamwork I'm sure that this will be achievable.

Their hard work and that of the team is a true credit to the York Office and to Aecom.“
