Said the following about Peter Duggan:

“Pete Duggan is one of the industry’s most well-known and well-respected engineers, who after well over 30 years’ service is retiring from his role as Siemens’ Chief Engineer at the end of the year.

It is almost impossible to overstate Pete’s contribution to Siemens and to the industry as a whole. His extensive knowledge and experience are unparalleled, and he has been a prominent figure on both UK and European industry groups, including the Rail Industry Association, where he has played a major role in the development and application of standards over a prolonged period, and the Western section of the IRSE where he has been a committed and loyal member.

Throughout his career, he has also demonstrated an uncompromising and outstanding commitment to engineering safety in the industry.

Over the course of his career, Pete has been involved in bringing some of Siemens’ most successful products to market, including the Trackguard Westrace interlocking and Controlguide Westcad control centre solutions.

He has also been involved in the complex world of patents and has managed the company’s patent application process for many years.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, he has established an amazing network of contacts throughout the industry, extending to customers and suppliers as well as train operators, academics, industry influencers and stakeholders.

His broad knowledge and skill base have meant that over the years, Pete has been involved in a number of different areas of the business, including R&D, engineering strategy, safety and capability – where, amongst a number of responsibilities, his team manage the company’s graduate and apprentice training programmes.

Forward-looking, uncompromising, thoughtful and fully-committed, Pete is certainly all these things but perhaps most notably he is an incredibly talented engineer who has made an outstanding contribution to the rail industry over a prolonged period of time.

When he retires, his shoes will be extremely difficult to fill.

Darren Nock, Head of Engineering IP Signalling, says..

"I have had the pleasure of working with Pete over the last 8 years. I’ve found him to be the consummate professional and he has always been supportive, investing a lot of time and energy as an active participant of a number of Signalling industry change programmes. These change programmes have and are delivering improved safety, efficiency, quality and programme. Pete is absolutely committed to improvements in the industry and whilst he may wear a Siemens badge he absolutely pushes for the good of all. He will be enjoying a well deserved retirement!"“
