The RailStaff Awards 2024

Nominations for Project Manager Of The Year

Clive Kessell

Said the following about Mark Somers:

“Whilst the rebuilding of London Bridge station took most of the limelight, it was the civil construction, track remodelling and re-signalling that was key to improving the train service. With much planning and preparation work carried out in advance, construction began in 2013 and was finally completed over the 2017/8 Christmas period. It was a massive project described as the biggest Network Rail has ever undertaken and was delivered on time and to budget. The subsequent Thameslink train service now runs uncongested through the station with improvements as well to Southern and South Eastern services. To manage and control all this work requires a person with both engineering and management capabilities. Mark's dedication to the project was exceptional and he should be considered well worthy of this award“
