Nominations for Samaritans Lifesaver Award

Said the following about Joseph O'Sullivan:

“In June 2018 Joseph was driving his train and was advised by the signaller of a possible person on the track ahead of his location. Joe made his way forward and found a male leaning against a signal gesturing for the train to move forward. Joe stopped his train and got an electrical isolation then approached the male to investigate his frame of mind. Joe found him to be in his opinion vulnerable and in a suicidal frame of mind. Joe talked to the male and found out that he had recently lost a close family member and wanted to die himself, Joe talked him round and made him aware of the Samaritans and suicide prevention programs that existed and the possible affects another death in the family would cause. The male responded to Joe and asked could he give him a hug? Joe replied yes and hugged the man and he said Joe was a nice person. Joe got the male to safety in the front coach of the train once the passengers had been moved to another coach and the conductor remained with the man keeping him calm until Police could meet the train at Rochester and the man be removed to a place of safety. Joe has previously made suggestions regarding suicide prevention and ideas to help those suffering with mental illnesses or anxiety.“
