Said the following about Health and Wellbeing Team:

“The Health and Wellbeing team involving the Health and Wellbeing Manager, 30 Health and Wellbeing Champions across the network, our OH nurses and technician and our external health partners have over the last year been working collectively in raising awareness to health and wellbeing across GTR.

As part of implementing the new Health and Wellbeing Strategy, the team have been responsible in delivering monthly wellbeing days - where to date over 165 mini health checks providing crucial lifestyle advice to our employees and early detection of diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol through our screening programmes has taken place.

The team have been active in publicising the monthly health and wellbeing facts sheets developed internally, getting involved in localised activities – such as arranging subsidised gym memberships, onsite massage, meditation classes and Fruit Fridays, as well as working collaboratively throughout the year with Samaritans raising awareness of their services at key hot spot stations. Several members have been trained up as Mental Health First Aiders to support staff, and others managed the new DIY checkpoint that was launched at Selhurst, Bedford, Brighton, Hitchin, and Kings Lynn over a month period. The checkpoints allowed access to all staff, whatever shift they worked and over 323 staff benefited from a comprehensive health check. Staff was given a personalised record to give to their GP and an information booklet explaining their results and how to improve their health.

The commitment of the team earlier this year was acknowledged by successfully achieving the Investors in People 'Health and Wellbeing Award'. Some of the assessors’ comments are detailed below:

‘Health and Wellbeing within GTR is led by a knowledgeable and committed manager; the enthusiasm that this person brings to the role is contagious.

Champions are a great idea and those met and interviewed by the Practitioner are committed and enjoying their role.

The activities to support Health and Wellbeing are numerous and varied’.“
