Nominations for Samaritans Lifesaver Award

Adam Dear

Said the following about Bernadette Lee & David Crump:

“I am nominating Bernie Lee and David Crump who are employed as Rail Enforcement Officers for GTR. (Double Nomination as both involved)

On 20th November 2017 a male was spotted acting suspiciously over the bridge at the Station. The male was spotted trying to climb over it. He was scared off by platform staff but later returned. Both Bernie and David were notified and dispatched themselves to the scene. On arrival they walked toward the bridge and saw a male fitting the same description again trying to climb over the bridge. The male was climbing and slipped due to wet conditions and was hanging by one arm from the bridge over the overhead lines and track below. Bernie Lee's quick thinking manged to grab the male's other arm and along with her colleague David Crump who assisted and manged to pull the male back over the bridge.

They all fell to the ground and for the males own safety restrained him until BTP arrived and took over the situation. In the fall the male landed on Bernie's arm and it later transpired that a fracture had occurred but Bernie didn't even take notice of her arm, her priority was the males Safety.

It later transpired the male had taken drugs and this was the reason he was climbing and had no intention of committing suicide and after he got clean he was very grateful to the action of both Bernie and David.

I am nominating both Bernie and David because they are true heroes and without them this male would probably not be alive today and deserve this recognition for the job they do day in day out.

Exceptional work in exceptional circumstances not only did they save the males life but also stopped a major incident happening on the railway affecting other staff and passengers. Truly remarkable actions by them both.“
