“Ben O’Day has been a great addition to GTR having joined us from Princes Trust after completing the ‘Get Into: Railways†programme. He is continuously championing the work of the Princes Trust and one particular occasion was when he was invited to talk to DfT on behalf of Princes Trust and GTR, his presentation focused around his personal story with the purpose of inspiring and influencing other Train Operating Companies to engage into a partnership with the Princes Trust.
The success of the presentation was that Network Rail and Arriva and a Retail Operation have approached Princes Trust and engaged in a conversation around running the same kind of scheme.
We may never know the full extent of the impact that Ben had when telling his story, but he stood up in front of 180 people and told a very personal story to try and influence some very senior personnel in the railway to help young people to be given an opportunity to work on the railway. Ben stood up in front of the group with confidence and is an absolute credit to himself, GTR and the young people he is trying to help.
Ben deserves to be recognised for the help he is offering to ensure other train operating companies help young people.“
