“During the night shift of 12 April 17 a major failure of the controlled effluent tank pump at Josette sidings in Bedford failed. A corroded part had caused the pipe to become adrift from the pump flooding the pump house with effluent.
Duty team leader Carl Channell in his usual non flappable way isolated the pumps to stop the problem escalating and team leader Malcolm Croft led the clean-up operation with Desmond Whyte and Sam Fryett. All tackled this extremely unpleasant task without complaining and did a fantastic job. Without these staff cleaning up this nasty situation I am sure that engineers may have refused to even enter the pump house to identify the failure and start corrective repair work.
If this had not have taken place our 12 car units may have entered service with limited toilets.
It goes without saying we are so impressed with this team.“
