Nominations for Train Driver of the Year

Glen Merryman

Said the following about Andy Ridley:

“Andy has been a train Driver for 8 years and was on his way home from Barnham Station when the passenger fell ill on the train in the leading coach of the train. Andy was alerted by another customer who first noticed that the passenger sat opposite her was suffering what looked like a fit.

Andy quickly and calmly took control of the situation by attending the ill passenger and asking if anyone could move down the train and find the other member of staff on board. He made sure the passenger was safe and the airways were clear and he was comfortable whist trying to keep him calm and awake. Andy's manner was controlled and assertive, a visible reassurance to the other worried passengers giving the best care he could, under the circumstances.

Emergency services were called for the next station and Andy stayed with the poorly passenger. Andy used his initiative in the circumstances to provide exemplary customer service during this very difficult situation. It is worth noting how well Andy coped with the other distressed passengers as well and looking after the poorly gent. This is so typical of his character.“
