Nominations for Train Driver of the Year

Wayne Shaw

Said the following about Kenny Hunter:

“I would like to nominate Kenny for showing dedication and commitment to the role of an instructor driver over the past year.

It is hard to put down in writing the amount of dedication he has shown and the help that he has given in supporting the DTM team at Sheffield, which is more than you would expect from an Instructor.

In the area we have recruited an unprecedented amount of trainee drivers who without the help of Kenny we would have struggled to complete their training within timescales.

Over the past year Kenny has swopped holidays, shifts and days off to deliver traction and depot training to a high standard. He has given each of the trainees his personal number and has encouraged them to contact him at any time if they did not understand something of if they needed any further training on either traction or rules. Kenny has also taken on the coordination of the trainees road learning and arranges to meet them to deliver route briefs and carryout route sign offs in a timely manner, sometimes several in a day which reduces the amount of outstanding road learning days reducing the cost to the company. He has done all this while also carrying out his normal instructor duties such as assessment rides and briefs.

Kenny is always positive and is a role model for the trainees who all look up to him. I regularly receive praise for Kenny from the trainees who state that without his help they would have struggled with aspects of the training. Kenny works closely with the DTM team and has always displayed initiative and dedication to his role, he is well respected not only by ourselves but the whole depot at Sheffield. I would be happy to discuss the impact that Kenny has made at Sheffield if you would like more information.“
